My son is 18 months. He has severe excema and allergies to what seems like everything. Anybody have a child that relys mostly on neocate for nutrition?

Hi, Rebecca! We're glad you joined us and posted on the boards. Welcome to our group!

We have many members whose children have multiple food allergies and eczema! Hopefully some will see your post...

I have many pamplets from Nutricia about Neocate. If you think it would be helpful, email me at admin@fapelasvegas.org and I can arrange getting it to you. Your doctor may have already given you what I have...?

A few ideas for tapping into as many parents of food allergy as possible for input/ideas/etc. (in addition :) to using OUR message board):

There is a parent section on Neocate's website that has a forum where you can post questions in a discussion board and hear back from other parents. They also have an Ask The Expert link where you can ask their medical staff questions. See http://www.neocate.com/aaa_neocate/1953-parents-advanced-services.html

If you haven't already, consider looking through/posting on the forums at www.kidswithfoodallergies.org Some of the forums are open to all, some you have to become a member to have access. Membership is something like $20/year and they provide a way to obtain a free membership if needed, read the site if interested. Anyway, in addition to being able to ask questions, they have many previous posts on Neocate you could find in at least 2 sections of the forum (Formula and Special Medical Foods Forum and Parents of Babies, Toddlers, Preschoolers Forum).

The local representative here in Vegas for Neocate has recently changed- I don't have info on the new rep yet. If you call Neocate, they can give you the contact info for the rep here- you could call the local rep and ask questions about Neocate.

I hope you can make it to our lunch in January- we would love to meet you soon!!

Hi Rebecca,

My daughter also has eczema and multiple food allergies (milk, soy, egg whites, peanuts, wheat). When she was about 6 months old her pediatrician recommended Nutramigin, which is the only formula she was able to drink without vomiting and eczema outbreaks. When she reached 12 months we tried Neocate and she would not drink it. The doctor kept her on the Nutramigin as she was under weight and needed the vitamins and calories. She is now 2 years old and is still using the same formula. It is more of a supplement now that she is eating better. Now that she is older we are exposing her to rice milk. Based on conversations with her doctor, she will move more towards rice milk only within the next few months. Vitamin supplements are a must also.

Hi rebecca
I have 2 daughters with 2 different allergies,my oldest with peanut, nut and fish, the youngest is with wheat, eggs and dairy, they both have eczema, what help them is TAC ointment that their doctor have prescribed, and also zyrtec for the ithching whenever necessary, but pls ask your kids doctor first because, this is what help me most. I notice that my youngest dont have much of a flare-up if I dont give her foods without much preservatives. She actually eat healthy, because she just eat vegetables, rice corn, rice with chicken, rice with beef. Anyway it is difficult, to have kids with allergies, but its good we are not alone.

Hi Rebecca, My son Tyler (2) has allergies to dairy, eggs, and nuts. It was the worst 6 months after he was born. He had severe eczema and he was in so much pain he never slept. I finally saw an allergist and figured out what was causing all of this. We switched him to Nutramigin and he has been a very happy active boy. We were told as long as he would drink the formula to keep him on it since rice milk doesn't have any nutrients. He only drinks 16oz a day but that is better then nothing. He does take a vitamin every day and he eats well so I am lucky there. I have just learned to cook meals that he can have. It hasn't always been the easiest and sounds like you have a few more obsticles then I do, but that is what we are all here for. I hope there are others out there that can help you. Jennifer

Hi Rebecca, my children are 3 and 1 and between the two cannot have wheat, barley, rye, dairy, eggs, or nuts. I have learned to cook for them and they have few flare ups now. I've tried hard to learn how to bake for them. I've learned a lot, and it's rewarding to be providing food for them that's wholesome and enjoyable. Have you pinpointed which foods your son is allergic to? See if there's something on my blog that helps you to provide something he can have: http://wheatdairyeggnutfree.blogspot.com/

A book that's been helpful for me is "Dealing With Food Allergies in Babies and Children," by Janice Vickerstaff Joneja, PhD, RD
It steps you through trial diets and ensuring that your child has the nutrition he needs. I wouldn't use it(as far as trial diets go) without advice from your child's allergist.
