First time I saw an artcile about food allergies show up in my CNN list on the home page for my laptop! I have just posted it on the NEWS page here on FAPE's website. "My Son's Struggle Against Deadly Food Allergies" I found it to be an informative piece for spreading food allergy awareness!! Anyone have comments on the article?

I think this is a good article to keep on hand for sharing with others who do not know much about food allergies, like you say, Debbie, for sharing food allergy awareness. It also helped me to feel good about some of the things I'm doing at home. I am developing systems to avoid cross-contamination while cooking separate items for the family, as did the mom in the article.
Carmel flavoring/coloring was mentioned in the article as something the lady is avoiding. I have been frustrated and confused about this. I have read that carmel flavoring may contain milk, but it depends where/who manufactured it. I have tried to research and understand about food labeling laws, and I had come to understand that in the U.S., if carmel flavoring or coloring as any amount of milk protein, it is required to say so. Do I understand correctly? I know the safest thing would be to avoid the stuff altogether. How much do you guys know about the new food label laws? Do you understand carmel flavoring to be safe in the U.S. if it's not labeled as containing milk?
