I spoke to someone at Mad Science today (darn that I forgot to get her name). They do not have any top 8 allergens in their materials that they know of. They avoid projects handling/dealing with food exactly due to food allergy concerns. They recommend that you arrive 15 minutes - a half hour early on the first day of camp to speak to the instructor about: checking (together with them)all ingredients for that particilar camp, discussing how the epi pen will be handled (where kept, whether instructor has been trained or if you need to go over that with them right then), and if your child will be there for lunch time- how to handle that for your particular child. All of the instructors for Mad Science are CCSD teachers. For full day camps, parents are requested not to bring peanut products in lunches (lunches are all brought individually from home). The staff person I spoke with was helpful, receptive, and seemed to understand our situation pretty well. She said any parent is welcome to call to speak with them in the office or the owner regarding questions. I am thinking of enrolling my two 5 year olds in a Jr. camp for August (9 am - Noon) so I'll post after that (but it will be late summer) with our experience. Please- anyone else out there post as well if you have experience with this camp! Please - do your own research before enrolling, this is just FYI from what they told me when I called.

An extra point: If I sign my kids up, I'll be talking with the staff first to be sure my kids were set up with a teacher who is experienced with FA and epi pen administration. This is leg work they could find out ahead of time and assign my kids to a group lead by an FA experienced teacher. I would ask for this, FYI. This in addition to arriving to camp early to talk with the instructor that first day.
